I took a business trip to San Francisco over Valentine's Day weekend. Nu-Soul Magazine sponsored an Om Records event called Nothing But Love at a spot called Mighty on Valentine's Day. We hosted the secod room where my partner DJ Destroyer spun for the entire night. It was pretty cool as we got to create that Nu-Soul/Strictly Social vibe for the whole night in beautiful San Fran. As always I made the most of my stay there. I hung out with Jonathan from Om Records and went to Oakland for a mixer at Zion I's studio. Got to catch a short performance and met singer Goapele which was dope. Hung out with the homie Replife which is always good times. I also got to kick it with my cousin Dana who is living in the Bay area for school. And I got to see Jason and Nicole at their breaks weekly! I did a lot in two days that is for sure.

Strictly Social January 2009 photos
Strictly Social rang in the new year (give or take a few weeks) with our first event for 2009. Local Los Angeles talents Jimetta Rose and Mic Holden took to the stage and blew us away. Mr. Mic Holden charmed with his nimble lyrical flow and easygoing vibe while Ms. Jimetta Rose simply dominated the crowd with her impressive voice and confident stage presence. Keep your eyes peeled for these two artists! Check out the photos courtesy of our partner in crime Kawai Matthews of Air Philosophy!

Mark de Clive-Lowe Interview
Becoming entrenched within the UK melting pot culture as a young adult, Mark de Clive-Lowe became an essential part of the broken beat/nu-jazz/future soul culture that produced immense talents like Bugz in the Attic, IG Culture, and Bembe Segue. His name has appeared on countless productions, collaborations and remixes from the last few years, quietly creating the sound of a movement.

Fotos by Mikel Kilgour
I shot with my friend Mikel Kilgour over the Holiday season. He is an artist that using many different media to express himself from photography and fashion to painting and music. I wrote an article about him awhile back. I am digging the photos. We just snapped these behind Starbucks in West Hollywood and you would never know it. They are very intimate and avant-garde. New territory for me. Look for more very soon!

Future Sound of Breaks Special Feature
For those that don’t know, the electro breakbeat sound that began when Afrika Bambaataa dropped “Planet Rock” in the 1980s and spawned the renaissance of modern hip-hop is alive and well. Leading the charge for this often overlooked form of American dance music is the Future Sound of Breaks (FSOB). This trailblazing organization has been working steadily to raise the profile of the breakbeat community and sound through a high level of marketing, event production, and music releases. Join Nu-Soul Magazine as we take a closer look at FSOB and their impact on the dance music community in a special two-part feature.
